“If we lived in a state where virtue was profitable, common sense would make us saintly. But since we see that abhorrence, anger, pride and stupidity commonly profit far beyond charity, modesty, justice and thought, perhaps we must stand fast a little—even at the risk of being heroes.” —Sir Thomas More, from the play, A Man for All Seasons
For us 21st century followers of Jesus, these words echo a succinct Christian response to pressures brought to bear by those who, for now, are dedicated to cancelling faith, virtue and those who embrace Truth.
So what do we do?
“Therefore,” the apostle Peter wrote, “prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:13-16)
But how do we do it?
Start here…
“But I tell you who hear Me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you (Luke 6:27-31)
It’s the perfect three-point sermon, and there is more light in the doing of it than all the darkness the Enemy can muster. Besides—you’re likely reading this because some did the same to you…
Blessings,
