Snappy answers to FAQ’s on church controversies

Q.: The Shroud of Turin—real or not real?
A.: Hundreds of eyewitnesses saw Jesus certifiably dead, then very much alive. Do we really need relics?

Q.: Flat Earth? (Usually not put to me as a question…)
A.: You’re kidding, right? You’re not? I can’t help you.

Q.: Why don’t you use the Book of Enoch? (Another one usually not put to me as a question)
A.: It’s not part of the Bible, so I don’t go there. (See my position paper on TBOE here)

Q.: What about the Nephilim?
A.: Why about the Nephilim? The Bible said they were big, they were bad, and now they’re gone. Time to move on.

Q.: From which tomb—the Holy Sepulcher or the Garden Tomb—did Jesus rise?
A.: Doesn’t matter—they’re both relics and they’re both empty.

Q.: How does Planet ‘X’ play into the wrath of God?
A.: If it exists, it would take decades (if not centuries) to encroach on the inner solar system, much less bombard it (us) with comets. Sleep well.

Q.: Is the 1611 King James Version the only inspired Bible in English?
A.: As with many Christians, anything for a fight.

Q.: What about the recent discovery of the Red Sea crossing route, Mt. Horeb and the ‘split’ rock?
A.: No archeologists were directly involved, and a couple of very dubious self-styled authorities support it. Keeping an open mind.

Q.: Speaking in Tongues?
A.: Go ahead. The Bible never said they ceased—but it also never said everyone could or should.

Q.: Was the Temple Mount really the Antonia Fortress? (Alas, yet another subject usually not put to me as a question)
A.: This arrangement is only possible if the earth is flat… (See my position paper on the Temple Mount Location Controversy)

Q.: Which creation model is the right one?
A.: What God said. The Bible is a revelation, not always an explanation—that He did it is more important than how He did it. Trust and obey.

Q.: Is His name ‘Jesus’ or ‘Yeshua’?
A.: It’s Jesus—or Yashua or Yeshuah or Yeshua ha-Mashiach or Jesu or יְהוֹשׁוּעַ or ישוע or Iseus or Iesous or ܝܫܘܥ or—need more? So what’s the proper way to pronounce these names? Since it’s not a magic word, I’m guessing He doesn’t mind how we pronounce it as long as we call on Him to be saved.

Q.: Shouldn’t churches meet on the Sabbath?
A.: Some do, some don’t. Enjoy.
