Stunned Surprise

1–2 minutes

To read

Several years ago a friend named “PJ” moved out of my hometown, Cool, California, for good. Before he left he handed me a plaque inscribed with a poem he meant to be about himself, but it actually spoke of me (and perhaps you, too) and God’s amazing grace. I think of PJ whenever I recite it, and smile…

I dream’t of heaven the other night, and pearly gates swung wide;
An angel with a halo bright ushered me inside.
And there to my astonishment stood folks I’d judged and labeled
As quite unfit, of little worth, and spiritually disabled.
Indignant words rose to my lips but never were set free;
For every face showed stunned surprise—not one expected me…
(Author Unknown)

I think I will see PJ again…

    Oh, that’s so about me. Help me, dear Lord, set my ego aside and just love. Judge not, judge not, judge not. Nope, I better write it a thousand times on the blackboard. ~ Donna Day, Servant of God

    I love this poem and have expressed similar thoughts often but not as poetically!

    God bless
